…………………………………………………………. ………..Pirandello
.
(…) despite the extensive literature on the readymade, there has been little substantive writing on what this transformation means at the level of artistic labour and the cultural form of art. Too often dicussion of the readymade languishes in the realm of the stylistic analysis, the philosofical discussion of art and anti-art, or, more recently, the Institutional Theory of Art (…). This is because the analysis of artistic value in this discourses is rarely broached in relation to a discussion of actual labour in the modernist work of art.
.
(…) the readymade not only questions what constitutes the labour of the artist, but brings the labour of others – ideally at least – into view. Or, to be more precise, non-alienated and alienated labour are brought into view simultaneously.
